Is vitamin C only in citrus fruits? Discover how to get your daily vitamin C intake

Vitamin C is one of the most essential nutrients our bodies need. It has too many benefits to even count. It is absolutely vital to ensure the growth, development, and repair of all body tissues. It is involved in various functions like absorption of iron, formation of collagen, wound healing, boosting the immune system, and more.

Benefits of vitamin C

The benefits of vitamin C are never-ending. Vitamin C may help manage high blood pressure and may lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It also boosts our immunity systems as well by encouraging the production of white blood cells which help protect the body against infections. Vitamin C also enhances our brain functions, improving our memory and thinking as we age. Not only that, but it is a strong antioxidant that helps combat oxidative stress, which is incredibly important in healthy aging.

Where to get it

Citrus fruits, like oranges, lemons, limes, and more, might be the best source of vitamin C. You can outright eat them, or you can drink them if that is what you prefer. We have Zen Orange and Blue Lemonade juices that are jam-packed with every vitamin needed to ensure our healthy state. But they are far from the only ones that contain a vast amount of Vitamin C. A lot of various fruits and veggies have loads of it. Take thyme, for example, it has 3 times more vitamin C than an orange for instance. It also has the highest concentration of vitamin C than any other culinary herb. Kale is another great one, and it is also a great antioxidant that helps reduce chronic inflammatory diseases. You can get a tasty, healthy Zen Kale juice filled with vitamins and antioxidants anytime you want.

Spinach is a great source of vitamin C alongside other dark, leafy, green vegetables. There is a little bit of everything packed in our Pure Green juice that everyone can enjoy. Even though most of us didn’t like being forced to eat broccoli as kids, it was done so for a reason and we can all be thankful for it. Broccoli is a great source of vitamins, among other health benefits. Strawberries are not only filled with vitamin C, but they’re a great antioxidant and provide some fibers as well. Red and green peppers are another great addition to your diet as they both provide great nutritional value. Cantaloupe, grapefruits, apples, pears, kiwis, watermelons, and many more all have a great vitamin collection. Not only that, but the taste varies drastically, so there is definitely something for everybody to enjoy!

Vitamin C deficiency

If you do not consume enough vitamin C, you will experience a deficiency which is, by all means, not good. A lack of vitamin C means that collagen can’t be produced. This then causes our tissues to break down and the repair of our bodies becomes significantly worse. Some of the deficiency symptoms include muscle and joint pains, tiredness, easy bruising, tiny spots on your skin, and poor healing of the wounds. Other symptoms include dry skin, splitting hair, bleeding from your gums and nose, problems fighting infections, tooth and weight loss, and more. It can get even worse since it can lead to shortness of breath, dizziness, convulsions, and even fevers. Everything that we have mentioned is easily avoidable thankfully, all you have to do is adjust your vitamin C intake and in that regard, we have got you covered.

If you feeling low on vitamins or just want something tasty and refreshing, hurry on over to our Buda Juices and enjoy yourself!
