5 New Ways You Can Become More Sustainable


Sustainability has always been one of our core values. We believe in taking care of our planet and our bodies. 

Although reduce, reuse, recycle may seem a little retro it is still just as important as ever.

At Buda Juice we are passionate about what we do and love impacting not only the health and happiness of our customers but also our planet.

Here are some of the things we are doing to help reduce our waste as a company:

    • Reducing our packaging by utilizing reusable shipping totes, 100% Glass bottles with reduced label sizing and minimal but recyclable plastics on our lids.

Buda bottle return program. Return your used 475mL bottles to our Whole Foods or Longos locations.
* Unfortunately our 60mL shot bottles are too small to achieve a perfect clean so please recycle or reuse them.
    • Up-cycling of pulps from our juices: We are currently working with a local company to upcycle our leftover pulps from juicing to create a veggie based pizza crust.
    • Utilizing organic fruits and veggies - At Buda Juice, we only use certified organic, GMO-free, pesticide-free, chemical free veggies and fruits. The majority of our produce is "post-consumer"- meaning it isn't pretty enough to be sold to the general public but is still perfectly fresh and tasty. This helps farms greatly decrease their food waste. 
    • Purchasing our produce from local farms whenever possible: By purchasing local and decreasing the distance our produce needs to travel, we are able to manage the amount of greenhouse gas emissions from our supply chain.
    • Sponsoring environmental clean up projects and green initiatives to help keep our communities clean such as The wasteland plans- paddle 4 plastics.

    Looking for some new ways to increase your sustainability?

    Here are some little changes you may not know about that you can make every day to help reduce your impact on the environment: 

    Reduce your energy consumption: We know how tempting it may be to open the oven and sneak a peek (or a smell) at whatever you have in the oven.  However, every time you open the oven door to sneak a peek, the temperature drops 25° F and requires additional energy to get back to baking.

    Reduce your meat consumption-  Start small! Instead of completely cutting out meat, try meatless Monday’s. Use it as an opportunity to try new foods that you may often overlook such as tofu or lentils! For a family that doesn’t want to fully commit yet try substituting 1/2 of the meat for lentils on taco night! 

    Reduce your paper usage- The majority of bills and receipts end up lost or in the garbage can anyways. Why not get them sent to your email where you’ll actually be able to CTRL+F to find that iPhone receipt from 3 years ago. Most retail stores, utility companies and banks offer the option of paperless bills and receipts now! So if you have the option ask to have your bills emailed to you. 

    Reducing your food waste: Plan out your weekly meals BEFORE going grocery shopping. Having a list and complete of what you’re actually going to cook will keep you from buying too much and wasting food. 

    • See if you can stretch your food to last over several meals ie. leftover taco filling makes an amazing addition to taco salads or burritos the next day for lunch. 
    • If something doesn’t get used, freeze it and use it in the future. Frozen steamed cauliflower and zucchini make excellent (and tasteless) additions to smoothies! 
    • Try to research the optimal ways to store fruits and veggies in the fridge to make sure you can stretch their freshness (to keep leafy greens fresh, store them with a damp paper towel in a reusable plastic or glass container!)
    • If you’re still buying more than you can eat, think twice before throwing it out!  Find a local food bank and ask what kinds of food donations they accept.

       

       

    Recycle & reuse: It may be tempting to toss every juice bottle and peanut butter jar, but you can easily re-purpose plastic and glass. Use them as free containers to hold flowers, store ingredients, or to keep track of all the elastics you always lose.

     

    Although these may be small changes, if we all try to implement one little change into our daily lives they can add up to a big impact on our world.
